Tiny Carousel Dots Clustered With No Spacing Between Them

2.5.8 — Target Size (Minimum)

Scenario

Setting

An online spreadsheet's toolbar

What’s wrong

Carousel dots ~8–10px clustered together.

Example

An online spreadsheet's toolbar is a good example: carousel dots ~8–10px clustered together.

Why it matters

People with tremor or larger touch contact areas, and anyone tapping on a moving vehicle. On an online spreadsheet's toolbar, that means they get stuck and can't reach the control.

How to test

Measure carousel dot indicators in DevTools: clusters of ~8-10px dots with insufficient spacing fail.

How to fix

The target must be at least 24x24 CSS px, or have enough spacing that a 24px circle around its center overlaps no other target, or a compliant equivalent control must exist.

Outcome

With the fix in place on an online spreadsheet's toolbar, they complete the task using only the keyboard.

Who is affected

People with tremor or larger touch contact areas, and anyone tapping on a moving vehicle.
