Accessibility Conformance Testing

Accessibility conformance testing is the formal process of verifying, criterion by criterion, whether a product meets a named standard, typically to produce a VPAT or ACR for procurement purposes.

Unlike a general accessibility audit, which is often organized by page or by severity, conformance testing is organized by the standard’s own structure, working through every applicable WCAG success criterion (or Section 508/EN 301 549 requirement) and recording a specific Supports, Partially Supports, Does Not Support, or Not Applicable rating for each one.

Because the resulting ACR is often used by a buyer’s procurement or legal team to make a purchasing decision, conformance testing needs to be rigorous, well-documented, and defensible, with clear remarks explaining any partial or non-conformant rating rather than vague or optimistic claims.
