The current version, GIGW 3.0, upgraded the accessibility requirement from WCAG 2.0 to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and added 17 additional success criteria focused on users with cognitive disabilities, low vision, and mobile device constraints.
Every Indian central and state government website is expected to comply with GIGW, and empanelled auditors issue formal certification after testing. GIGW compliance is closely tied to IS 17802 and the RPwD Act, and non-compliant government sites can face directives to remediate under India’s broader digital governance push.
