IS 17802

IS 17802 is India's national technical standard for ICT accessibility, split into Part 1 (web content) and Part 2 (non-web/software), and the primary reference standard under the RPwD Act framework.

Published by the Bureau of Indian Standards, IS 17802 Part 1 closely mirrors WCAG’s structure and success criteria for websites and web applications, while Part 2 extends similar requirements to non-web ICT such as desktop software and self-service kiosks.

It’s the standard most often cited in Indian government accessibility audits and in GIGW compliance reviews, and it’s increasingly referenced in private-sector RFPs and vendor accessibility requirements as India’s digital accessibility enforcement expands beyond government websites alone.
