AODA’s web accessibility requirement took effect January 1, 2021 for public-sector organizations of any size and private or non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees, covering web content published after 2012 (two WCAG success criteria on live captioning and audio description are excluded).
Beyond the technical standard itself, AODA also requires regular self-reporting: organizations with 20 or more employees must file an accessibility compliance report with the Ontario government, with the next filing deadline set for December 31, 2026. AODA compliance is frequently referenced alongside Canada’s newer federal Accessible Canada Act.
