The Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation is made under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and sets out Ontario’s specific Information and Communications requirements, including the website accessibility rule most consultants reference day to day: public-facing websites and web content published after January 1, 2012 must conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA, with limited exceptions.
Designated public sector organizations and private or non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees have been required to meet this standard since January 1, 2021. Smaller Ontario organizations fall outside the strict legal requirement but are still encouraged to comply.
