Developed by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) in partnership with U.S. federal agencies, the VPAT format walks through each relevant success criterion and rates the product as Supports, Partially Supports, Does Not Support, or Not Applicable, with remarks explaining each rating. Once completed, a VPAT becomes an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR).
VPATs are most commonly requested during procurement, especially by government agencies, universities, and large enterprises with accessibility purchasing policies, and an accurate one requires a genuine technical audit rather than a template filled in from assumptions.
